One Night: Promised by Jodi Ellen Malpas

My Review

Given that this is the second book series by JEM that I’ve read (This Man being the first), I can’t help but compare the two leading men. And as far as the first few interactions go, I like Miller Hart from the start WAY more than I did Jesse Ward. Ward angered me to the point where I almost didn’t finish This Man. But even though Miler had this way about him where he could flip his emotional switch at the drop of a hat, he was far more likable.

Miller Hart is a master of disguise just as he is a master of lovemaking; although he kinda has to be a master of lovemaking. (Come back and read this again after you’ve read the book to share in a secret laugh I had with myself when I typed that last line.) But nonetheless, his skill set in the sheets won’t be the only thing that keeps you turning to pages. (That’s shocking. I know right?)

Final Rating: 5 Stars

Comments & Side Notes

§  After the Chocolate Sex in the Kitchen: Miller is franticly trying to clean up the mess he and Livy made, cussing at himself about the mess and how he could be so stupid. Well no shit Sherlock! You pour melted chocolate all over the girl, and screwed her against your mirrored fridge. OF COURSE IT’S A HOT MESS! As to why you chose to do that there instead of a shower where you could just let the running water wash it all away…I have no bloody idea.

§  Am I the only one who had to close to book when Livy was on the hunt for Gregory at Ice and her and Miller caught Greg and Ben in the bathroom? God I hate feeling embarrassed for characters and there’s nothing I can do about it…

§  Hotel Room Scene: Now I’ve been all for Miller’s worshipping of Livy but I’m not gonna lie, since he first told her about giving her “the best fuck of your life”, I’ve been waiting to see what that would’ve been like. But I certainly wasn’t expecting what we got. I wanted the worshipping but just more frenzied, and harder, and faster. What we got was cheap and cold and void.

A sex scene has never made me feel that before. And I didn’t like it.

Quotable Highlights

“Because you seem like a sweet girl who should get more from a man than the best fuck of your life.”  -Miller p. 28

Here JEM goes again with guys making bold ass comments two sentences in to a conversation

“Are you involved with anyone?”

“No.” I stun myself with my willing answer. I always claim to be in a relationship when any man shows his interest.”            p. 38

I ALWAYS do the same thing! And I hate when I’m caught off guard when I say no & I’m not interested. Ugh, it’s the worst.

“How can someone go from being so sensible to so damned insane in such a short amount of time?”             -Sylvie p. 65

         #Truth

This isn’t just lust I’m feeling – at least I don’t think it is. I’m confused. I don’t ever know what I’m feeling.      p. 66

Nah girl, that’s lust you feeling. Don’t get it twisted.

“It will determine whether I fuck you hard immediately, or break you in first.”

-Miller p. 83

Break me in! Break me in!

““Trust me, it was mine,” I insist, smiling when I feel him grinning against my ear. I’m desperate to see it, so I turn my face into him, finding the most amazing sight-a full blown, boyish grin, making his eyes sparkle like crazy and revealing a dimple that I’ve never noticed before.” p. 97

IDK how I can picture this so perfectly but it’s probably the cutest mental picture ever!

“I think you know that I want a lot longer than four hours, Olivia Taylor.”

-Miller p. 268

Finally this fool admits he wants longer than what left of their ‘24hrs’.

“This beautiful, pure girl has fallen in love with the big bad wolf.”     -Miller p. 321

Not sure why I like this line so much but I do. And if this series ever gets adapted for film, I vote this as the tag line.
